SmugMug > popular all-time > 09/07/09 - The boys and I went to a local private zoo yesterday called Noah's Landing. This place is all about hands-on learning and interaction with the animals. The NC Wildlife Rescue Center out of Sandford was onsite with some of their rescue birds, and this Great Horned Owl was amongst them. I've only ever seen a Great Horned Owl in the wild once, and that was just a silhouette on a power line, so I was ecstatic to get to see one THIS CLOSE. The boys and I had a superb time. We got to touch an alligator, skunk, opossum and more. We will go back! I put up a blog post about our visit here: http://maryanng.blogspot.com Besides the great horned owl, they had a red-tailed hawk, a black vulture, a screech owl, and a barred owl. Wow! Thank you all so much for receiving my black swallowtail picture so well yesterday:-) I took a picture of a red-spotted purple yesterday on the way to Noah's Landing, and that just might be tomorrow's POTD. SmugMug > popular all-time > 08.01.09 = "Mom! Kris is doing it again!!!" Yes, I used to pester my sisters growing up. I was the one, "I'm not touching you..." But growing up, my mother "made us" get along. If we got in a fight, she would make us sit on the step until we worked it out. We were never allowed to stay mad at each other. Today, we are each other's best friends. I talk to at least one or two of my sisters every day. I love you Kelly, Kim and you too Kasey! "I smile because you are my sister, I laugh because there is nothing you can do about it!"
SmugMug > popular all-time > July 14 '09 day 365 me today marks the completion of my first year on the dailies. i've spent a lot of time today thinking about what this 365 project has meant to me, what i've gotten out of it and what i will carry on with me..... for me this "project" started out as one thing and morphed into a completely different one. i started it with the intent to get into the practice of shooting every day and hopefully learn something along the way, but it quickly became my photo blog. it enabled me to share not only my photos but a piece of me as a person. it also gave me a greater appreciation of just how personal my photos are to me. i've learned that nothing in the entire world gives me more satisfaction that capturing a laugh, pure emotion, a personality or love. while i still prefer to keep it simple and unprocessed, playing w/ a shot or too can be fun too. i take my photography seriously but really try not to take myself all that seriously. i've come across a few people this year who took it all waaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously and, for me, took so much joy out of the process. i've met some really great people here, who have only enriched this experience for me. i appreciate you. everyone has room to grown and i think i know a few ways i want to push myself. i'm going to work on those in Year 2. on a side note is it gross that i used a pot of two day old coffee to make an iced coffee for myself? just checking.... oh and John, on day 80 something you asked how long i could keep up my one word titles. i'm still going.... :0)
